I want to be a Make-up Artist?
I want to be a make-up artist and be able to offer facials (i want to work in boots on the make up stand and eventually be able to offer special occasion make up in a hotel or something).
All the courses i can find are either in London and are £2000+ Full time (i already have a job), Beauty Therapy (which isn't really what i want - don't want to do waxing or massage or nails etc) or short courses (1 day make up - 1 day facial (can get insurance after completing it and can pay extra to get an NVQ from it) but again these are expensive (£400 for the make-up one - this does include the kit however and is also local, none of the others do) Anyone know anywere that does this kind of thing? Or anywhere i can look? I really want Part Time, so i can keep earning.
Hi--I have my makeup artist certificate. I had worked in theatre for a # of years and did theatre makeup and then to make extra cash--become a mary kay rep but really wanted to stay in the fashion/theatre world with my contacts.
I came across the Canadian Cosmetology association and they gave a certificate: Make Up level 1 (there are 2 more levels) for a decent fee if you took a day long course with them.
It wasn't hard but there were many sections and lectures and notes and a test and most of it was practical tests.
I thin it was $400? Cdn? Around there. There were 90 of us in the class and 86 of us passed that day.
What else? I would contact your country's cosmetology associating and see how to go about taking a course. There is also the option of going through Mary kay like I did (they are in the UK) or another similar company and using that as your make up line.
I had known makeup artists prior to doing my MK business & they told me that you'll "need a line" that you like--so I had been using MK and liked it. So I just stayed with it.
